Best Western Ao Nang BayIntroductionThe resort is well situated 200 metres from the beach in Ao Nang, yet far enough away to mean that it is always tranquil. Whilst showing signs of infrastructure wear and tear, it is quite good value for money. The large pool has a pool bar with underwater seating, which is unfortunately often closed in the low season. The gym, too, is often closed. The spa is good but there are many lower-cost establishments nearby.
This isn’t a place to plan to spend your entire vacation - there are only 20 sun-beds around the pool, so you may not get one. If all you want is somewhere to sleep, maybe take a dip or two, then it’s perfectly adequate. If however, you want to spend a lot of time lounging in your resort, it is best to look elsewhere. We have heard on the Ao Nang grapevine that there has been a recent spate of thefts at the resort, so guests are advised to use the safe provided, and not leave loose cash lying around.
RestaurantThe breakfast cooked-to-order eggs are OK, but the restaurant (which is almost always deserted except during breakfast) serves rather uninspiring Western fare, and overpriced Thai food. This is however not a problem as there are many excellent restaurants nearby, including Carnivores Steak House, A-One, and Wangsai Seafood (see map for more details). If, like this writer, you are particular about your breakfast bread, let us know and we’ll deliver you a fresh bakery loaf on arrival, as well as a great price.
AccommodationMost of the rooms have been recently renovated and contrast sharply in quality with those which have not, some of which have lumpy mattresses and worn-out, stained bath-tubs. This contrast in the quality of the rooms can be seen in the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com and accounts for the mixed reviews which this resort gets – this place is either perfectly satisfactory, or dreadful, depending on which room you get. Contact us for advice on picking a room which is in good condition – our office is just around the corner so we can pop round and make sure the room they are offering you is in good shape. If they haven’t got any of the refurbished rooms left, we’ll tell you.
